An assistant professor at the University of Delaware since 2002, oboist and English hornist Lloyd Shorter has received awards and grants from the state of Delaware for teaching and solo performance. In addition to performances with UD faculty ensemble Del'Arte Wind Quintet, Mr. Shorter has been a member of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra (DSO) for more than 38 years and has appeared with them as a soloist. In the fall of 2006 he was a featured performer for a WHYY-TV spotlight with the DSO.

Since 1990 he has appeared in more than 200 performances and recordings with the internationally renowned ensemble Relâche, an eight-member contemporary music ensemble from Philadelphia, and he has served as co-artistic director since 2004. With Relâche he has performed in Merkin Hall in New York City as well as internationally in Amsterdam, Berlin, Vienna, Warsaw, at the “Prague Spring” International Music Festival and the Festival of Latin American Music in Caracas, Venezuela. The group has also appeared throughout the United States as part of the national Music in Motion program. In addition to their international appearances, Relâche remains a notable performing group in the area, and their 2010 appearances in Philadelphia and Pittsburg received outstanding reviews.

Mr. Shorter has performed or recorded with Philip Glass, Michael Nyman and Paul Winter and has worked with numerous composers from South America, Europe and the United States. He has co-produced three recordings with Relâche including composer Kyle Gann's The Planets in 2010. He frequently performs as a soloist in the Delaware Valley area where he also features experimental and improvisatory concerts/services.  In 1999 Mr. Shorter began experimenting with Internet2 technology at UD, a technology-based teaching program where students are presented with courses featuring the work of living creative artists using live in-class interviews with the actual artists. He co-produced an Internet2 event on April 29, 2007 during which UD, one of five worldwide institutions selected for the event, presented a live multicast of the Philadelphia Orchestra from the Kimmel Center performing Symphony Fantastique by Berlioz. Mr. Shorter is a member of Performing Arts Sub-Committee of the national Internet2 organization.
