Robert Brandt, baritone, is an assistant professor of voice and teaches applied voice, German diction and Opera Workshop. He earned a Doctor of Music in Vocal Performance and Literature from Indiana University, where he studied with Costanza Cuccaro, and earned both a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music Vocal Performance from Brigham Young University studying with J. Arden Hopkin and Clayne Robison.

Dr. Brandt appears regularly on the operatic and concert stage in repertoire ranging from the Baroque to the 21st century. In a review of his performance of Mandryka in Richard Strauss’s Arabella, Opera News said, “Robert Brandt had it all. Handsome, with an ebullient personality, Brandt has innate musical simplicity and honesty and delivered the German text with amazing clarity of diction.”

Recent operatic credits include Germont in La Traviata, Marcello in La Boheme, Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro, Mandryka in Arabella and Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Since moving to Delaware in 2007, he has been active locally and regionally as a concert soloist. Highlights include performances of the title role in Mendelssohn’s Elijah in Wilmington, Del., and Abington, Pa. On campus he soloed with the University of Delaware Symphony Orchestra in Haydn’s The Creation and Brahms’s German Requiem.

Dr. Brandt has a love for classical art song and in particular for the German lied. In 2008 he participated in the 15th International Robert Schumann Competition in Schumann’s birth city of Zwickau, Germany. He took part in KBYU-FM's radio broadcast celebrating the centennial of Hugo Wolf’s death. KBYU also broadcast his solo recital featuring settings of Eichendorff. Dr. Brandt participated four times in master classes of acclaimed collaborative pianist Roger Vignoles. One of these culminated in a public performance of Schubert songs under Mr. Vignoles' guidance. Recent art song performances include Schubert lieder as part of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra Champagne Chamber Series, an all-Schumann Liederabend at UD and a Shakespeare-themed recital at Winterthur Museum & Country Estate in Wilmington.

As much as Dr. Brandt loves to perform, teaching is an equally important part of his life. He is a full member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. His goal is to always provide students with the learning atmosphere and the tools they need to take their vocal technique and artistry to the next level. Recent graduates from his vocal studio have been accepted for graduate study at esteemed programs such as Indiana University, Eastman School of Music, the University of North Texas, and Westminster Choir College of Rider University.
