Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia & Sigma Alpha Iota
The University of Delaware Department of Music sponsors chapters of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and Sigma Alpha Iota, professional music fraternities for men and women respectively. Visit the home pages for the Xi Mu chapter of Phi Mu Alpha and the Eta Rho chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota.
Music Educators National Conference
Music Educators National Conference, or MENC, is a group dedicated to acquainting students with the responsibilities of the Music Education profession, assisting the Department of Music with various projects throughout the year, and bringing together students who are interested in Music Education.
American Choral Directors Association
The American Choral Directors Association is a nonprofit music-education organization whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching.
The Society of Composers, Inc.
The University of Delaware Student Chapter of The Society of Composers, Inc. is open to music composition and performance students. Established in 2003, the chapter works to promote the compositions of its members through regular public performances, as well as hosting guest professional composers on the UD campus. The chapter also works to raise awareness of the field of contemporary classical music within the university and the surrounding community.
The Society of Composers, Inc. is a professional society dedicated to the promotion of composition, performance, understanding and dissemination of new and contemporary music.
Members include composers and performers both in and outside of academia interested in addressing concerns for national and regional support of compositional activities. The organizational body of the Society is comprised of a National Council, co-chairs who represent regional activities, and the Executive Committee.
IAJE Organization
The IAJE is an organization whose mission is to assure the continued worldwide growth and development of jazz and jazz education. Membership in the Student Chapter shall be open to any student who is enrolled at the University of Delaware. Each member of the student chapter is entitled to full membership benefits which includes, among other things, receiving a personal copy of the Jazz Education Journal. The Chapter assists the Department of Music and the IAJE Delaware State Unit with a variety of projects and initiates jazz-related activities of its own.
