Todd Groves is a New York City based musician performing on saxophones, flutes, clarinets, recorders, and ethnic flutes. He is currently playing in Lincoln Center's new musical production, Happiness. Past performances include: Audra McDonald (Carnegie Hall), Michael Feinstein, Michael Crawford, Natalie Cole, Lou Rawls, Aretha Franklin, Linda Eder, Grover Washington, Jr., Joel Grey, Tommy Tune, Gino Vannelli, The Greater Trenton Symphony, and many others. Recent Broadway/NY pits: White Christmas, Sunday in the Park with George, Damn Yankees (City Center), Grey Gardens (Broadway), Edward Scissorhands (BAM), See What I Wanna See (Public Theater and Williamstown Theater Festival), Mother Courage and Her Children (Shakespeare in the Park), Play Without Words (BAM), It's A Hit! the musical (NY Fringe Festival). Prior to moving to NYC in 2005, Todd was the house reed player at the Prince Music Theater in Philadelphia, and performed regularly at all of the theaters in the Philadelphia area. A graduate of the University of the Arts, Todd has been lead alto in the Lars Halle Jazz Orchestra and Joe Sudler’s Swing Machine. He is a founding member of the funk band, Raw Deal, and holds the tenor chair in the New Jersey Saxophone Quartet, which recently gave its first Carnegie Hall recital. Todd's original composition for saxophone quartet, Delaware Jazz Suite, received its world premiere by the NJSQ at the 2006 World Saxophone Congress in Slovenia and was subsequently performed at Carnegie Hall. Recent recordings: R Kelly, Boyz II Men, Grey Gardens (Original Broadway cast), See What I Wanna See (cast album), Victoria Clark, 2 Raw Deal releases, Duo - with Rob Brosh, Kayle Brecher, Jane Norman, MTI Junior (6 recordings), Lars Halle, Joshua Kobak, Minas, Marlon Spike, NJSQ, and others. He has appeared as guest soloist with The Wind Symphony of Southern New Jersey, the Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey, and the University of the Arts Big Band. He is adjunct professor of saxophone at the University of Delaware and a member of UD's faculty jazz ensemble. He is an active composer/arranger and regularly gives clinics throughout the area at other colleges and high schools. Todd has been featured as soloist with the UD Wind Ensemble, Delaware Steel, and performed with the Del'Arte woodwind quintet.
