Wind Ensemble

The University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Lauren Reynolds, is comprised of 53 woodwind, brass, keyboard and percussion players, and its members are chosen through competitive auditions held at the beginning of each semester. These auditions are open to any student on campus, both music majors and non-music majors. The Wind Ensemble performs multiple concerts on campus and additional concerts off-campus each semester, including tours, conferences, and outreach performances. The repertoire is chosen from the most challenging original literature for band, wind ensemble, and wind chamber ensemble, ranging from standard repertoire to innovative modern works.

Wind Ensemble membership at the University of Delaware leads to the development of superb individual and ensemble playing skills and artistry; the ensemble has enjoyed recent campus collaborations with such composers as Jack Stamp and Pulitzer Prize-winner Joseph Schwantner, as well as consortium commissions of works by David Maslanka and Steven Danyew. The ensemble has been invited to perform at Eastern Division meetings of the MENC eight times, and most recently completed a featured performance at the 2014 Maryland Music Educators Association State Conference.
