In addition to directing the University Chorale and Schola Cantorum, Paul D. Head also teaches choral methods, literature and conducting along with the supervision of vocal/general student teachers at the secondary level. Dr. Head is a native Californian where he taught in the public schools for eight years prior to pursuing graduate study at Westminster Choir College of Rider University. His choirs have toured extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Europe and have received high acclaim for their musical artistry. He has studied conducting with Charlene Archibeque, Allen Crowell, Joseph Flummerfelt and Dennis Shrock. While a member of the Westminster Choir, extensive touring included performances with the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Prior to coming to Delaware, Dr. Head served on the faculty at Westminster Choir College where clinical research resulted in co-authoring of the book "Case Studies in Music Education" published by G.I.A. Publications, currently in its second edition. He has presented at workshops and conventions at regional, state and national levels and is in frequent demand as a clinician/adjudicator for choral festivals and honor choirs throughout the United States. This year, Dr. Head will serve as a guest conductor and/or adjudicator in California, Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Mississippi, and North Carolina. He also is a member of the summer conducting faculty at Westminster Choir College. Under Dr. Head's direction, the UD Chorale has received considerable acclaim, respected amongst the nation's finest college choirs. Recent tours have taken them throughout the Mid-Atlantic region as well as to Scotland, France, Germany, and Austria. In addition to performing on the 2002 ACDA Eastern Division Convention, they recently made their national debut at the ACDA National Convention in Los Angeles in 2005. They also appear frequently with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, most recently in performances of the Verdi Requiem and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9.
Dr. Head has served as President for the Delaware American Choral Directors Association in addition to serving on the executive board of the Delaware Music Educators Association, and holds membership in Pi Kappa Lambda, (the National Music Honor Society) and the music fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He resides in southeastern Pennsylvania with his wife and three children.
