An assistant professor at the University of Delaware since 2002, oboist and English hornist, Lloyd Shorter has received awards and grants from the State of Delaware for teaching and solo performance. In addition to performances with the University of Delaware faculty ensemble, Del'Arte Wind Quintet, Mr. Shorter has been a member of the Delaware Symphony for over 35 years where he has appeared as a soloist. In the fall of 2006 he was a featured performer for a WHYY TV spotlight with the DSO. Since 1990 he has appeared in over 100 performances and recordings with the internationally renowned ensemble, Rélâche, an eight-member contemporary music ensemble from Philadelphia; he has served as Co-director since 2004. With Rélâche he has performed in Merkin Hall in New York City; Amsterdam, Berlin, Vienna, Warsaw, Prague (The Prague Spring Festival), throughout the U.S. as part of the National Music in Motion program; and the Festival of Latin American Music in Caracas, Venezuela. Mr. Shorter has performed or recorded with Philip Glass, Michael Nyman, and Paul Winter, and has worked with numerous composers from South America, Europe and the U.S. He frequently performs as a soloist in the Delaware Valley Area where he also collaborates with percussionist Scott Davidson presenting experimental and improvisatory concerts/services.

In 1999 Mr. Shorter began experimenting with Internet2 techology at the University of Delaware (a technology-based teaching program where students are presented with courses featuring the work of living creative artists using live in-class interviews with actual artists). On April 29, 2007, using Internet2, the University of Delaware was selected as one of five worldwide institutions to present a live multicast of the Philadelphia Orchestra from the Kimmel Center performing Symphony Fantastique by Berlioz. Mr. Shorter is a member of Performing Arts Subcommitte of the national Internet2 organization.
