Private Study Instruction
Private study is available for beginner, intermediate and advanced students on piano, voice, flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, violin, viola, cello, guitar, percussion, steel pans, composition and theory.
Student should indicate which level of faculty they prefer. Private lessons will be scheduled individually for the mutual convenience of the teacher and student.
Lessons are scheduled once per week in two 12-week semesters. You must register separately for the spring in order to continue lessons. Summer lessons also require a separate registration. Fall Semester begins the week of September 19, 2009. Spring Semester begins the week of February 13, 2010.
Private lessons are 30, 45 and 60 minutes in length. Lessons longer than 30 minutes will be decided by the instructor. Beginners should start with 30 minute lessons.
Student recitals occur once per month, starting in December.
Students must provide their own instruments and have access to an instrument in order to practice. The University of Delaware does not rent or sell instruments.
Teaching Faculty
The UD Community Music School has three levels of teaching faculty.
Junior Faculty: University of Delaware music students who have been carefully selected for their musicianship and ability to teach. Junior Faculty are assisted by their own private instructor to ensure the quality of the music instruction being offered.
Professional Faculty: Area music teachers with extensive experience teaching music in a private studio setting and/or in regional private and public schools. All members of the Professional Faculty hold degrees or certificates in music.
Artist Faculty: University of Delaware Department of Music Faculty. Those wishing to study at this level may be asked to audition to ensure proper placement. You will be contacted after your registration is received to discuss the details.
Tuition
Private instruction is offered on a semester basis, lasting 12 weeks. You may begin at any point in the semester, and lessons will be prorated.
