An All-Scholarship Workshop!
 
WHEN:
Friday, January 20 - Sunday, January 22, 2017
WHERE:
University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware
WHO:
Violin, Viola, Cello students (Advanced high school and college undergraduate students). Individuals and pre-formed STRING chamber groups are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Participation will be limited to 20 students chosen by audition.  All accepted participants will receive a full scholarship for the WORKSHOP sessions.  Costs for travel, accommodations and meals (other than those provided by workshop) are the responsibility of the participants.

Travel Award Scholarships will be available to a limited number of applicants, based on assessment of applications by Serafin String Quartet. Awards will generally range from $300-$600.
WHAT:
All participants will perform in public master classes, receive a private lesson (or chamber ensemble coaching if applying as a pre-formed group), and chamber music coaching.

Master Class participants will be selected by judges to participate in a public performance on the last day of the Workshop.  CASH prizes ($300, $200 and $100) will be awarded to three participants at the discretion of the judges.
HOW:
FIRST - Apply here and submit and $25 non-refundable application fee by January 5, 2017.

SECOND – Send video recording as a Youtube or Vimeo link to Prof. Lawrence Stomberg at lstom@udel.edu. Include two contrasting movements/short works (max 12 min).

Ensembles should send ONLY their ensemble performing two contrasting works, not individual performance videos.

Workshop will take place in the Amy E. du Pont Music Building and the Roselle Center of the Arts on the University of Delaware campus in Newark, DE.  Check-in information, complete schedule, maps and directions will be sent via email in mid-December.

GETTING HERE & TRANSPORTATION
 
By car, Newark, Delaware, is located approximately 1 hour from Philadelphia, 1 hour from Baltimore, 2 hours from Washington, DC, and 2.5 hours from Manhattan.  If you travel by personal vehicle, parking at the hotel will be free and on campus it will be $5.00 per day (no in and out privileges) in the parking garage adjacent to the Roselle Center for the Arts.
 
Wilmington, Delaware, is serviced by Amtrak, Megabus, and Greyhound.  There is not really an easy way to travel from Wilmington to Newark via public transportation (especially on weekends).  However, there is limited Uber available in the area.
 
Philadelphia Airport (PHL) is located approximately 45 minutes from Newark, and from Baltimore-Washington Airport (BWI) the trip is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.   Delaware Express (an airport shuttle) is the only vendor to service Newark, DE.  A trip to PHL will run approximately $54 per person each way, and a trip to BWI will run approximately $150 per person each way.
 
We are offering an option Transportation Package for $100 available at time of registration.
 
Included in the package is:
Airport pick up at PHL at 2:30 pm on 1/20/17
Transportation to and from Priority Hotels each day of conference
Airport drop off at PHL at 3:30 pm on 1/22/17
 
Complete information about pick up locations will be sent one month in advance to all purchasers of our Transportation Package.  Please provide all travel information via email as soon as available.  **Please be careful when booking return flights that you allow for recommended 2 hours at airport after drop off.  Please do not book flights from PHL before 5:30 pm.
 

LODGING

Our Priority Hotels are the Embassy Suites (654 S College Avenue, Newark) and Homewood Suites (640 S College Avenue, Newark).  The workshop rate is $105.00 per night at both hotels and includes a hot breakfast.  Free parking is available.  Transportation Package users will catch our shuttle right in front of hotels.
