All trips feature Department of Music faculty leadership, advance study notes, round-trip transportation and bus driver gratuity. Operas are sung in Italian or French, and each seat has an individual screen with English subtitles for simultaneous translation of the words sung on stage.
The motorcoach departs from Clayton Hall in Newark at 7:00 a.m., and from the Wilmington Campus, 2800 Pennsylvania Avenue at 7:30 a.m. The bus arrives at Lincoln Center at approximately 10:00 a.m. and departs from Lincoln Center after the performance. The first stop is always Lincoln Center, and the bus can make one additional stop either at the Metropolitan Museum of Art or Rockefeller Center, if requested. Traffic conditions in New York City can impact the schedule, and the trip leader will announce any changes the day of the trip.
Study trip participants have independent time for dining, visiting museums or shopping prior to the performance and until the bus departs. Participants receive a confirmation email when their orders are processed. Study notes and parking information are sent approximately two weeks before each trip. No physical tickets are required for bus-only patrons. Opera patrons receive their Met tickets the day of the trip.
Inclement weather: Study trips run regardless of weather conditions. Trips are only cancelled if the Metropolitan Opera cancels the performance or there is a State of Emergency declared and the bus is prohibited from driving.
