UDMB FIELD STAFF APPLICATION & AUDITION PROCESS Online Application - click here
This audition/application process is an effort to get to know you better as a candidate for a Field Staff position. Please read the following requirement information carefully so you know how to prepare. If you have ANY questions, please contact SARV. Remember: everyone needs to bring 2-3 band members to the mock music rehearsal in order to help create a viable ensemble. ALSO: EVERYONE must participate in the mock music and drill rehearsals even if you are not applying for one ofthose positions. Application Requirements Rank Leader Music Section Leader Drill Section Leader Music Coordinator (Brass or Woodwind) Drill Coordinator Drum Majorr Interviews will vary depending on the position for which you are applying. All candidates will be asked a series of questions so we can get to know you better and get to know your ideas as a leader. For example, if you are applying for a music position, we might ask you to describe a daily warm-up you might do with your section (same goes for drill). All applicants for all positions will be asked to play "Fight Song" and "Delaware Forever" during their interview. The mock music rehearsal: You will get a score one week prior to the audition date in order to prepare. Each candidate participating in this part of the process will get 7 minutes in front of the group to rehearse a section of the music. We are looking to see how efficiently and effectively you use your time and make improvements with the group. The mock drill rehearsal: Each candidate participating in this part of the process will get 5 minutes to teach a few brief sets of drill (which she/he has written) to a group fr 9-12 people. You will then have 1 minute to run it. The drill should be very straightforward and easy to teach. In the past, some candidates have actually written out the drill and handed a copy to each marcher, whereas others have simply taught the drill through words and rehearsal. Please don’t try to attempt anything too elaborate! We are looking at how successfully you use your time efficiently and effectively, as well as how you communicate to a group. All candidates should use proper commands when running this mini-rehearsal (i.e. "to the ready," "attention," "set," etc.) The conducting demonstration is for DM Applicants only. Applicants will demonstrate basic 3/4 and 4/4 patterns in various tempos and styles. Music will be provided. This will be done in a group setting. |
