Workshops

  • Instrument Petting Zoo
    • When: 9:30am-12pm
    • Where: CFA Puglisi Lobby
    • Description: Drop in and learn about a variety of instruments by touching, playing, and discussing them with our enthusiastic teachers!
  • How to Practice
    • When: 10-11am
    • Where: AED room 110
    • Description: CMS instructor, Shoshana Lieberman, will cover strategies to help you maximize your efficiency in the practice room. This will include ways to make practice less boring and what type of warm-ups/practice routine one should do to prepare for. The workshop is geared to various instruments and vocals.
  • Flamenco Rhythmic Clap Patterns
    • When: 10-11am
    • Where: AED room 118
    • Description: Come explore the rhythmic patterns of Flamenco. Flamenco is from various folkoric music traditions of Southern Spain. We will experience these rhythms through the activity of hand clapping, basic note reading, and building ensemble rhythms.
  • Vocal Jazz Workshop
    • When: 11am-12pm
    • Where: AED room 118
    • Description: "Join our special guest Maria Rusu in an interactive workshop on the essentials of scat singing. Whether it’s Scoo-Bee-Doo or La-Ti-Dah, join this creative session to learn more syllables and singing tricks. We invite all musicians -- vocalists or not, to join us for an hour of fun and education."
  • Music For Young Minds
    • children must be attended by a caregiver
    • When: 11:30am-12pm
    • Where: AED rooms 208, 211, 219
    • Description: Through a variety of classroom activities featuring singing, chanting, moving to music, playing assorted percussion instruments, and ​pattern instruction our goal is to develop basic musical skills within a fun environment. Age range: Birth through age 6 Children who attend this early childhood music workshop must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver
CMS Recital
  • When: 12:15-1pm
  • Where: CFA Gore Recital Hall
  • Description: Five minute musical presentations by UD undergraduate and graduate students teaching with CMS.

Music Theory I

Amy du Pont Music Building, Room 116

Registration Required: Register HERE (found under Class Type>Workshop) 

Tuition: Free to any CMS registered students, $40 for non-CMS registered students

 

This class introducing students to the fundamentals of music theory beginning a strong foundation of understanding how music works.  Topics will include sight reading/singing, building chords, key signatures, intervals, rhythm and much more.  The curriculum will build as the semester goes forward, and we ask that students make a commitment to attend all sessions each semester they register for.

Prerequites: Participants must be competent at note reading and basic rhythm.
