Drama Camp

Camp Description: If you have ever thought about dipping your toes into the creative streams of ACTING…come on in the water’s fine! In this supportive and nurturing environment you will tap your imaginative resources, and learn how to cultivate “stage presence” and battle “stage fright”. This course is designed to impact all areas of your life, both on and off the stage. With 30 years as a professional actor and acting teacher, Stephen Pelinski will use a variety of techniques from improvisation, theater games and scripted scenes to introduce you to the wonderful world of ACTING.

Location: UD Roselle Center for the Arts, Gore Recital Hall

Choir Camp

Camp Description: A joyful, engaging summer music-making experience for young people who like to sing. The campers will have lots of fun while singing a variety of outstanding music, receiving instruction in voice and musicianship, along with participating in musical activities and games. Program will culminate with a concert Friday, June 29, at 3 pm.

Location: Amy E. du Pont Music Building

Whorising 2nd graders – rising 12th graders

Cost:  $275, $25 discount for registering by May 15

Dates: 6/25/2018 to 6/29/2018​

Hours:  ​8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. / After care is available.

Jazz Camp

Camp Description: Become immersed in the world of jazz! Students rehearse, perform and develop improvisational skills and work on understanding jazz performance.  Improvisation experience is not required.  Work is done in a collaborative and supportive atmosphere where taking a solo is your choice.  Some previous experience with sight reading is essential. Camp culminates in a concert Friday, June 22, at 7 pm.  Band requires specific instrumentation and there will be space limits based on need.  A recommendation from a teacher (private or school) via email is required. Please send recommendation to communitymusicschool@udel.edu.

Instrumentation: Jazz Big Band(alto/tenor/bari saxophones, trumpets, trombones, piano, bass, guitar, drums, mallet percussion)

Cost:  $275, $25 discount for registering by May 15​

Dates: 6/18/2018 to 6/22/2018

Hours:  9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Meet the Instruments!

Camp Description:  Camp participants will have the opportunity to see, hear and play the instruments of a typical band/orchestra program as well as learn about and experience the beginning steps of each instrument. The day will be broken into manageable segments that include mini-concerts of each instrument, demonstration and coaching sessions as well as activities/crafts. The week will culminate with a brief presentation to family & friends on Friday afternoon.

Steel Drum and Afro-Caribbean Drumming Camp

Camp Description:  The steelpan also known as the steel drum is a musical instrument originating from Trinidad and Tobago. Camp participants will be immersed in a different culture through music. Led by professional steel pan artist and Trinidad and Tobago native Aneysha de Coteau, the day will be broken into two main sessions of steel drumming and Afro-Caribbean drumming. No prior musical knowledge is required. The week will culminate with an informal concert on Friday afternoon to showcase learned material to family & friends.

Middle School Band Camp

Camp Description:  Led by prominent band director, adjudicator and performer Pamela Letts, the schedule includes group rehearsals, sectionals, theory and aural skills classes, as well as workshops by UD faculty and local artists.  Camp concludes with a performance on Friday evening (July 20) at 7:00 pm in Loudis Recital Hall.

Musical Theatre Camp - On Stage! - FULL

Camp Description:  Join our full summer musical production right here in Newark in the beautiful Thompson Theatre!  We are doing ANNIE! In addition to rehearsals for the production, On Stage camp will include workshops and masterclasses in movement, auditioning, acting and singing.  Auditions for parts will be held during the first week, and everyone enrolled in On Stage camp will be cast in show.  Please, no absences from camp during the final week beginning July 23 as there will be technical rehearsals every day.  Other absences can be accommodated but may affect casting.  Participants will be responsible for minimal personal costume pieces (personal undergarments, things they may already own and footwear).  No additional expenses to participate.  Each child will receive two tickets to one performance, and additional tickets will be $10 each.  Performances will be on Friday, July 27 at 7:00 pm, Saturday, July 28 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm and Sunday, July 29 at 2:00 pm.  Limited to 40 participants.

Camp Description: Join our full summer musical production right here in Newark in the beautiful Thompson Theatre!  We are doing ANNIE!  Backstage camp will be full of workshops and seminars in make-up, staging, set building, costumes, sound and lighting as participants create costumes, props and put together the backstage elements of production.  No additional expenses to participate.  Each child will receive two tickets to one performance, and additional tickets will be $10 each.  Performances will be on Friday, July 27 at 7:00 pm, Saturday, July 28 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm and Sunday, July 29 at 2:00 pm.

High School Students: High school students may assist with backstage activities as a unpaid internship or service hours opportunity. Remember that many high schools in the area require many service hours in order to graduate.

Camp Description:  Join our full summer musical production right here in Newark in the beautiful Thompson Theatre!  We are doing ANNIE!  Sign up for one or all Set Build & Design workshops for high school students as we create the full set for our production.  Workshops designed for all to participate fully whether you are an expert or a beginner.  Guidance and training will be available for beginners.  Participants will receive two tickets to one performance.

No additional expenses to participate.  Each participant will receive two tickets to one performance, and additional tickets are $10 each.  Rehearsals listed below.  Minor conflicts can be accommodated during rehearsals.  Performances will be on Friday, July 27 at 7:00 pm, Saturday, July 28 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm and Sunday, July 29 at 2:00 pm. The orchestra requires specific instrumentation, and there will be space limits based on need.

A recommendation from a teacher (private or school) via email is required except for DE All-State participants.

​Before care - All Camps​beginning 8:00 a.m.​$20 for entire week
​After care - All camps​until 6:00 p.m.​$5 per hour (any portion of hour constitutes one hour)

Before Care must be booked in advance at the time of registration; otherwise, drop-off will be available 15 minutes before the beginning of camp.

After Care is available on a drop-in basis with limited notice and will be billed based on usage at the end of each camp week.
