The University of Delaware Community Music
School is offering a dynamic music making program this spring for all
singers first through twelfth grades. Our vocal ensembles can be
performance-based extensions of the music education offered in schools
or an outlet for those who just can’t seem to sing enough. There are no
auditions, and all levels are welcome. In the Blue Voices,
children will explore their singing voices as a group as they learn
songs in a wide variety of genres and styles, experiment with simple
harmonies, and develop their music literacy skills. They won’t be
sitting still, though‐ they’ll learn their music by playing games,
moving, singing, and chanting together! They’ll also explore their
creative sides as they write songs together as a group. In Gold
Voices, young adolescents will further develop their vocal skills in a
wide variety of genres as they learn to sing songs as a group in
multiple styles such as pop, jazz, classical, contemporary, and more!
Participants will experiment with complex harmonies as they hone their
ability to learn music by ear and by reading musical notation. They’ll
even get to try their hand at both arranging their favorite songs and
writing their own!The HS A Cappella ensemble will be arranging
and performing a cappella arrangements of contemporary favorites. The
ensemble will work alongside UD students from award winning UD a
cappella groups. We are offering a 9-week program in spring 2022. All
vocal ensembles will meet 2/22 – 5/3, and there will be a final
Showcase performance in the evening of Tuesday, May 10, 2022. A full
schedule of rehearsals and events will be provided at the first session. Our vocal ensembles rehearse in the Amy DuPont music building on the UD campus. There will be no uniforms for spring 2022.The UD School of Music also offers a choral opportunity for the community through their Schola Cantorum ensemble.
