Voice Prescreening

Image Picker for Section 0

All vocalists must submit a prescreening video recording before being invited to audition on campus. Undergraduate applicants who do not submit a prescreening video will not be considered for the music major.

Prescreening videos should be submitted through SlideRoom, also referred to as the "Arts Supplement" in the Common Application.

Programs that Require Prescreening

  • The Bachelor of Music (Applied Music, Music Education, Composition, Theory, History/Literature)
  • The Bachelor of Arts in Music (with or without Music Management Concentration or 4+1 Program)

Prescreening and Live Audition Requirements

All vocal students will be expected to perform two stylistically contrasting vocal solos from standard classical repertoire, from memory and with accompaniment.

  • Examples of standard classical repertoire:
  • 17th and 18th century Italian songs
  • Lieder (Schubert, Brahms, Schumann, etc.)
  • French melodies (Faure, Chausson, etc.)
  • Early or contemporary songs in English

  • Video prescreenings should be submitted via SlideRoom no later than January 15th, with priority consideration given to applicants who submit materials by January 1st. It is highly recommended that students submit their prescreenings early in order to secure travel arrangements.
  • The School of Music will provide an accompanist for the live audition; applicants should provide the accompanist's sheet music.
  • Voice applicants are welcome to present the same repertoire in both their prescreening and in their live audition, however, substitutions to vocal selections are also allowed.
