Martha Lindquist Burke works with the Department of Music as music student teacher supervisor. Ms. Burke has served as a cooperating teacher at the Marshall Elementary School for music student teachers from the University of Delaware since 1993. She served annually as a host for the MUED 379 Teaching Methods classes in partnership with Suzanne Burton until her retirement from the Christina School District (CSD) in 2007. Ms. Burke also helped create UD’s Project MUSIC in the first year of its partnership at Marshall Elementary School with Dr. Burton, UD and the Delaware Symphony Orchestra.

Ms. Burke received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from West Chester University and a Master of Education and Administration from Wilmington University, and is in her 43rd year of teaching music.  She is the kindergarten music teacher at the Tatnall School in Wilmington.

Ms. Burke was chosen as the 1989 Cobbs Elementary Teacher of the Year and the 1989 Christina School District Teacher of the Year. During her 37 years with the CSD, Ms. Burke served as Site Council chair, team leader, mentor, lead mentor and building coordinator in the state mentoring program for new teachers, and as building coordinator for many fine arts residencies. Mrs. Burke was also chosen as a recipient of the 2008 Jessie Ball DuPont Educator of the Year Award for her outstanding contribution to the field of music education. She serves on the education committee of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra and is a member of several professional organizations such as NAFME, Delaware Music Educators Association, Delaware State Educators Association, the Gordon Institute for Music Learning, NKAD, the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Phi Delta Kappa, the National Association for the Education of Young Children and SRIG, a special research interest group.
