​Christiaan Taggart began his guitar studies at age 11 with Peter Cologna and was the first guitarist to be accepted at the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts (now University of the Arts), where he received the Bachelor of Music. As an instructor in guitar at University of Delaware, Mr. Taggart teaches all guitar majors and minors in weekly repertoire classes and guitar ensemble, as well as classes for non-majors. In addition to his performing and teaching, Mr. Taggart has published flute-guitar transcriptions with Theodore Presser Company and his music engraving has won four Paul Revere Awards for graphic excellence in publishing.

As a soloist and ensemble performer, Mr. Taggart has received high critical acclaim, and performs throughout the country in recitals and as a soloist with orchestra. The News Journal in Wilmington, Del. says, “He ought to be heard again and again,” and Le jour-Le Courier in Brussels described Mr. Taggart as "a master of his instrument ... he left the audience breathless."

His appearances with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra include the Giuliani Concerto Op. 30 and the American premiere of Malcolm Arnold's Serenade for guitar and Strings. He has also performed Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concerto de Aranjuez with the Kennett Symphony and Dover Symphony Orchestra.

In 1997, Mr. Taggart received an Individual Artist Fellowship for solo performance from the state of Delaware, and in 2009 theDelaware State Arts Council awarded him the Masters Individual Artist Fellowship in the Music-Solo Recital category, the highest award the state gives to an artist in any discipline.

Mr. Taggart is one-half of the Taggart-Grycky Duo, one of the Department of Music’s resident faculty ensembles, with flutist Eileen Grycky. In addition to presenting recitals throughout the year, the duo has toured New England, Colorado, the southern United States and Europe, where they won the Prix de Liege. They have been finalists in Concert Artist Guild and East-West Artist competitions in New York. Their recordings include Romantic Music for Flute and Guitar and Poetry and Madness. ​
