Biography
​​Robert J. Streckfuss received his Bachelor of Music and Masters
of Music degrees from University of Michigan and his Doctor of Musical
Arts from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He is a
professor of music at the University of Delaware, where he teaches
courses in conducting and music education and conducts the UD Wind
Ensemble. Dr. Streckfuss was principal trombone for the Delaware
Symphony Orchestra for 15 years and has been a music educator in
Delaware for almost 45 years. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Mu
Alpha and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.
Dr.
Streckfuss was the graduate coordinator when the Department of Music
introduced the Master of Music degree in 1989. He mentored 12 Master
of Music conducting students and served as thesis advisor for eight
Master of Music teaching concentration students.
Under his
direction, the Wind Ensemble performed for the College Band
Directors National Association (CBDNA) and the National Association for
Music Education (MENC). In 2009, they performed for the MENC conference
in Providence, R.I., the eighth time they were been invited to do so.In
1990, the Wind Ensemble toured Luxembourg, Germany and France. Prior to
joining UD faculty in 1975, Dr. Streckfuss taught for nine years at
Alexis I. du Pont High School in Greenville, Del., where he developed a
highly successful band and orchestra program.
Dr. Streckfuss has
been the conductor of the Wind Symphony of Southern New Jersey since
1977. The Wind Symphony, an adult wind ensemble that draws its members
from a three-state area, performs music for band, wind ensemble and wind
chamber ensemble at eight concerts each year. The Wind Symphony toured
England during the summer of 1993 and has performed at meetings of both
the MENC and the CBDNA.
Dr. Streckfuss is a past-president of the
Delaware Music Educators Association and has served as chair of the
All-State Band and All-State Orchestra. He is also active as a guest
conductor and adjudicator.
