MUED Courses with Field Experiences

Introduction to developing Elementary General Music Methods and Materials and implementing a comprehensive, standards-based elementary general music curriculum through clinical experiences. Offered fall semester only.

PREREQ: MUED 277 with a grade of B+ or better.

Introduction to developing and implementing a project-based curriculum for secondary general music through clinical experiences. Offered spring semester only.

PREREQ: MUED 377 and MUSC 335 with a grade of C- or better. COREQ: MUED 336.

Introduction to music materials and approaches through clinical experiences. Offered spring semester only.

PREREQ: MUED 377 and MUSC 335 with a grade of C- or better. COREQ: MUED 337.

Methods and materials for teaching choral/vocal music at the secondary level, including practicum placements in the choral music education classroom. Topics include group vocal technique, rehearsal strategy and planning, and organization of the comprehensive choral program. Offered fall semester only.

PREREQ: MUED 378 and MUED 336 and MUSC 328 with a grade of C- or better.

​Methods and materials for teaching instrumental music at the secondary level, including practicum placements in the instrumental music education classroom. Topics include group instrumental technique, rehearsal strategy and planning, and organization of the comprehensive instrumental program. Offered fall semester only. PREREQ: MUED 379 and MUED 337 with a grade of C- or better.

​All students taking a course with a field placement must complete a set of clearances by the first day of the semester or the first day of the student teaching experience. Students will not be permitted to attend their placement if these clearances are not completed in a timely manner. The Office of Clinical Studies (OCS) can assist you with TB and criminal background history clearances. ​All students taking a course with a field placement must have a cleared TB test on file with Student Health Services at Laurel Hall before the first day of the placement. In addition, all student teachers must have a TB test within nine months of their student teaching placement according to state law. ​All students taking a course with a field placement must have a valid criminal background clearance (CBC) on file in the Office of Clinical Studies by the first day of the semester. If you do not have a valid CBC on file by the first day of the semester, then you will be instructed to drop your course(s) with a field placement.
