Teaching Concentration
- Prospective students are not required to audition on a primary instrument.
- Prospective students will be required to interview with the Music Education faculty.
Conducting Concentration (Choral, Orchestral, Wind Band)
On the graduate application, applicants must submit the following:
- A 20- to 30-minute video in performance.
- A 20- to 30-minute video conducting in rehearsal.
- An up-to-date repertoire list of all works conducted. Feel free to delineate between works conducted in performance and those studied/not conducted in performance.
- Orchestral applicants only - a video performing their primary instrument.
All videos should be from the perspective of the ensemble (facing the conductor), not the perspective of the audience.

Videos should be no less than 15 minutes and no more than 40 minutes.
Composition Concentration
- Prospective students are required to interview with the Music Composition faculty.
- Prospective students are required to complete the Graduate Theory Examination on the day of the interview.
Composition Requirements
Students must provide three scores with matching audio files which demonstrate composition experience for a variety of vocal and/or instrumental solos, chamber ensembles or large ensembles. Both scores and audio files are required. A program note on each piece should be included. This composition interview is an opportunity for each applicant to demonstrate proficient musical understanding and ability; applicants will discuss their composition portfolio with a Composition faculty member.
Acceptable styles for compositions include:
Classical (concert, film, and electronic/electroacoustic)
Jazz (fully realized scores, no chord charts)
Musical Theatre (fully orchestrated scores, no piano reductions or chord charts)
Compositions in popular/commercial styles are not acceptable.
All composition materials are due by January 15. Scores and audio/midi files should be attached within the music supplement of the application. To inquire about alternative submission methods, contact musicadmissions@udel.edu.
