The University of Delaware Wind Ensemble, led by Lauren Reynolds, is comprised of approximately 50 of the finest woodwind, brass, keyboard and percussion players in the School of Music. Membership is determined by competitive auditions, open to all majors at the University—both music and non-music—held at the beginning of each semester.
The Wind Ensemble performs concerts both on and off campus each semester, including tours, conferences and outreach performances. Repertoire of the UDWE spans more than five centuries and is selected from the most challenging original literature for band, wind ensemble and wind chamber ensemble, ranging from standard repertoire to innovative new works.
Membership in the UDWE leads to the development of superb individual and ensemble playing skills and artistry. The ensemble enjoys a rich history of supporting new music, having led and participated in commissioning of works by David Maslanka, Steve Danyew, Steven Bryant, David Biedenbender, Brett Dietz and many others. Recently, the UDWE completed a successful performance tour of Spain, giving concerts to sold-out audiences in Barcelona, Valencia and Granada, as well as an invited performance at the 2019 Úbeda Festival of Music and Dance, and they were featured performers at the 2020 College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) Eastern Division Conference.
